A policeman has been arrested over allegations of theft. The policeman at the rank of a constable who also doubles as a Police driver is attached to Buliisa central police station.

It is alleged that the Policeman colluded with two civilians and stole two cows and one goat in Kibambura village, Ngwedo Sub County in Buliisa District.
According to security operatives, the constable loaded the stolen animals at night on a Police patrol vehicle registration number UP 5728 and drove towards Biiso town council.

The Buliisa District security committee reportedly got a tip off and put check points along the Buliisa-Biiso-Hoima road.
According to authorities, the constable was stopped at a Police checkpoint which was at a junction that leads to Butyaba landing site but he refused to stop and instead forcefully drove past it.
It is at this point that UPDF soldiers from Wantembo barracks were alerted and they intercepted him before he could enter Biiso town council.
He was detained at Wantembo barracks and the Police patrol vehicle he was driving with two cows and a goat he had allegedly stolen, impounded by the army.

By press time, he had been handed over to Police.
The Albertine Regional police spokesperson Mr Julius Hakiza confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“Yes he has been arrested. He is currently detained at Buliisa central police station along with two civilians,” Mr Hakiza told the Daily Monitor on Wednesday.

He said police is considering charging the suspects with theft. A charge of abuse of office is also being considered against the constable.

“They will be produced in court for prosecution once investigations are complete,” Hakiza added.
