Monday, 09, July, 2016, inspectors from the Rwanda Agriculture Board and the Rwanda Investigation Bureau showcased to media samples of the faked drugs for animal care that are at the Rwandan market.
The RAB officials called upon the general public to be more cautious as to detect and avoid the use of such animal drugs.
The recently registered cattle deaths resulted either from the diseases or the overdose they have been administered by unexperienced cattle herders, one official said.
The administration of the overdose of the drugs is, sometimes, eased by the fact that the etiquettes on the bottles containing the drugs indicate different content from the real one.
Dr Jean Claude Rukundo from RAB revealed that 65% of cows in Rwanda get infected by bugs.
Currently cows in Rwanda have been attacked by a deadly animal disease called the Rift Valley Fever that the Southern and Eastern Provinces.
The RIB and RAB joint inspection was conducted in districts such as Nyarugenge, Nyanza, Huye, Nyagatare, Ruhango, Gatsibo, Kayonza, Rusizi and Nyamasheke.
Any businessman found guilty of selling fake drugs for animals is bound to face six to one year imprisonment or pay a of bail worthy of 1 million Frw, as said by one of RIB officers who participated into the operation.
