Kacyiru – Gasabo – This Monday officials from the Ministry of local government, the Ministry of heath, the Ministry of infrastructures and the Ministry of internal security have gathered at Kacyiru in the RNP headquarter building to discuss about the measures to be taken as to reduce the rate of the deadly accidents that have taken many lives of Rwandans in recent days.
This meeting came in after three successive road accidents have killed more than 30 people in different corners of Rwanda.
14 severe measures to improve road safety have been set up through a consensus of all the above mentioned ministries and the National police officers.
Police affirms that most of these harmful accidents result from the carelessness of car drivers, the over-speeding and the overdose of alcohol consumers who drive cars.
Here is a list of newly set up drastic measures to improve road safety in Rwanda:

A quick review and assessment of road regulations and laws,

To increase the presence of the so-called road humps and circulation signals,

To withhold the driving permits of the ones found guilty to have involved others into accidents,
-
To install speed tracking machines in buses and long vehicles,
-
To improve the cars technical Control techniques, skills and tools.

To educate all road users ( drivers , passengers and pedestrians) about the safe use of roads,
-
To increase at nine times the severity of the existing sanctions against the irresponsible road users,
-
To stop the importation of cars that have the driving kits that are not nationally and legally recognized,
-
To increase the traffic police presence and the availability of traffic police patrolling cars,
-
An increased partnership between all the institutions concerned with public transportation including RURA, insurance companies, MINALOC, MININFRA, and security officials.

A time table regulating the working and resting hours for the drivers,
-
A provision of the resting areas for both the drivers and their cars,
-
To set more severe sanctions for the drivers who use the mobile phones while driving,
-
A provision of paramedic facilities in different corners of Rwanda as to provide quick rescue for the accident survivors.
The minister of infrastructures, Musoni James told media that all of these 14 new measures are to be implemented as they have already been made public.
