As Rwanda gets ready to remember the Genocide against Tutsi, the 2014 genocide memorial period for the 20th time, officials in charge told journalists that this time the Rwandan spirit ( Ndi Umunyarwanda) will be involved as to help all Rwandans to reflect on the measures to take so prevent the genocide from happening again both in Rwanda and elsewhere.
The invited guests in the show were Mucyo Jean de Dieu from CNLG( National Commission for the Fight against the Genocide), Fred Mutanguha from Aegis Rwanda and Sehene Ruvugiro Emmanuel, a journalist.
The show took place at Isango star but broadcasted in more other six radio stations meaning Inkoramutima, Ishingiro, Voice of Africa, Radio 10, Radio Izuba and Radio Isangano.
Key topics discussed upon included the programs that are scheduled to take place throughout the 2014 memorial period. These events include a lunching event that will take on 7th, January at Kigali Memorial site.
Mucyo Jean de Dieu underlined that the different public debates will be held in different districts selected in different provinces to discuss on the roots of genocide and what necessary strategies can be taken to hinder the genocide ideology from burgeoning and infecting people’s minds.
Relating the Ndi Umunyarwanda Spirit to the mourning period, Fred Mutanguha said that the Ndi Umunyarwanda spirit converges to the memorial week in a way that it brings all Rwandans in a single way of understanding their brotherhood and strive to live a in a country free of disunity and genocide ideology.
In the previous years, some Rwandans were not aware of the usefulness of participating in the mourning week, but we want to show to all Rwandans through the involvement of the Ndi Umunyarwanda spirit that genocide related consequences befall to all of us, thus a coordination of all efforts to eradicate all that can revive disunity among Rwandans, said Mutanguha.
Mucyo Jean de Dieu said that Rwandans have a historical responsibility to intervene in all areas and nations that are likely to experience a genocide or other inhumane atrocities.
Mucyo added that the commission for the fight against the genocide has planned different activities aiming at helping survivors to undergo the mourning period without harm among which are counseling sessions reserved to survivors from different sites.
Phone calls from the listeners appreciated the new strategy to commemorate the genocide against the Tutsi but underlined the necessity of providing effective material support to survivors.
Mucyo Jean de Dieu said that few memorial sites that are getting older due to time are soon to be rehabilitated.
This year’s mourning period is scheduled to start from 7th , January 2014 and will last within four months, ending in April.
This weekly show takes place every Sunday from 2h00 to 3h00 every Sunday. The show aims at discussing on issues of both national and international interests.
At the international scene, journalists who led the show talked about the current crisis in CAR and S.Sudan. They also discussed about the recent death of Patrick Karegeya and the death of Col Mamadou Ndala of FARDC, among others issues of the international scene.
