The Executive Manager of the Rwanda Housing Authority told Umuseke that in the coming seven years around 201 thousand families will be relocated from high risk zones in safer ones.
Ten thousands families will be resettled from high risk zones while other 205 thousand families will be taken from high risk zones towards safer ones, as revealed by Eric Serubibi, The Executive Manager of the RHA.
The RHA is entitled to monitor how effective housing activities are conducted as to make Rwandan cities more convenient for businesses and accommodation.
The Rwandan government looks forward to provide safe accommodation for 80% of Rwandan families in the coming seven years.
In 2014 only 55% of Rwandan families were well settled in the population settlements known as Imigududu.
Special villages are being built in various areas of all districts and chosen more vulnerable families will be resettled in them.
This special resettlement of the most vulnerable families started being implemented in Rweru and Sharita islands from Bugesera districts where many families were resettled in special village equipped with adequate infrastructures.
Serubibi revealed that the government is planning to build these model villages in all sectors of Rwanda.
The government will put on place adequate apartments as to help people living in cities have cleaner, safer and cheaper places to settle in.
The resettlement in Kigali will be carried in accordance with the Kigali Master Plan as to avoid further negative consequences.
