Lagos — Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili and the National Coordinator, Women Arise, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, alongside other women leaders representing 60 Civil Society Organisations have demanded the immediate removal of Section 9 (4) (b) from the constitution, as according to them, it infringes on the rights of the girl-child.
At a stakeholders conference hosted at the instance of Women Arise in Lagos yesterday, Ezekwesili, who read the communiqué on behalf of other participating delegates said Nigerian women will continue to press until Section 29 (4) (b) is expunged from the constitution.
“That we unequivocally demand the deletion of Section 29 (4) (b) of the 1999 constitution as originally proposed by the Senate Committee on Constitution Review. That state assemblies that are yet to domesticate the Child Rights Act should do so immediately,” she said
