Within 32 years ago, an association of parents from Gitwe invested in different developmental activities that including education and health. Elderly parents joyfully appreciate the fruits from their efforts.
Among the biggest achievements include the foundation of the “Association des Parents de Gitwe”(APAG) that played a significant role in promoting education in Gitwe.
Those lovely and elderly parents today appreciate their contribution to development at both local and national level.
In 1981, Gitwe was full of bushes but today it is among the smartest commercial centers that are not located in big cities.
The APAG invested into education at an extent that a secondary school called ESAPG was created and grown up to produce a high institution of learning called ISPG (Institut Superieur Pedagogique de Gitwe).
The members of the Association built a Health center.
Mr Urayeneza Gerard, the current spokesperson of the Association revealed to Umuseke that the secret for the success of this association is rooted in effective leadership, effective communication, a clear vision and effective management promoted by all team members.
The development of Gitwe is observable to everyone who has been there for longtime ago, as quoting Ephron a local trader.
In 2001, President Paul Kagame gave to those outstanding parents three cows to help them have access to money through animal husbandry.
The President Kagame did that in order to thank them for the efforts they displayed in developing their region in particular and the nation in general.
H.E Paul Kagame gave the association an financial support of 84,000,000 RwF to be invested in the finishing up the construction of Gitwe health center.
H.E Paul Kagame played a big role in the development of Gitwe. He has shown to us that he cares about Rwandans well-being and we thank him very much, says Mr Urayeneza Gerald.
Pastor Ezra Mpyisi , a respected adherent of the Seventh Adventist Church, affirms that Gitwe parents displayed a fatherly role for the area and to the nation in general.
In 1993, ISPG was allowed by the Ministry of Education to launch the faculty of medicine, being the second in the country after the one of the National University of Rwanda.
This one of the most significant achievements of the APAG since its inception in 1993.
The ISPG has academic partnership with the Stanford University, California ,USA, whereby the later is willing to start training medical doctors who have learnt in ISPG.
Parents from Gitwe say that the most challenging situation in the area is a remarkable bad state of the roads in the neighborhood that hampers effective communication, parents say.
