This Sunday, news provided by the Congolese based Radio Okapi reveal that 83 FDLR fighters have disarmed in their military base located in Buleusa, Walikale District. The ceremonial event to welcome them was held by different authorities from SADC, ICCLR, MONUSCO and from the DRC political and military senior officers.

The Vice Governor of the North Kivu, Feller Lutahichirwa reminded the rest of the FDLR’s armed elements that  the date for full disarmament has come to its end and therefore that they remain with only two days to surrender.

He underlined the decision that the DRC government has taken to not expel all armed forces from its land.

The representative of the SADC urged the fighters not only to disarm but also to quit the DRC bushes and join their homelands so that the nation might become as peaceful as early before.

For him, the upcoming year, 2015, should be a year of peace and prosperity for all Congolese nationals, free of armed rebels.

Both disarmed rebels and their family members were transported in MONUSCO’ trucks towards Kanyabayonga refugee camp to be taken care of.

According to the timetime, the FDLR has an ultimatum that will expel on 2nd, January, 2015 for them to be fully disarmed.

Rwandan government has expressed its concerns about the observable unwillingness of political actors to fully disarm the FDLR. It remains however keen to find out whether the politically motivated speeches of both Congolese and MONUSCO’ officials to disarm the FDLR will become concrete.
