The scandal happened in Nyakabanda cell, Niboye sector in Kicukiro district. The man called Gatabazi Telesphore used a hummer to kill his wife with who he spent 13 yearsof marital life.
After killing his wife, Gatabazi attempted to suicide himself through throwing himself in the street to be killed with a lorry that was passing nearby but the car did not kill him, rather injured him seriously.
The family has a eight years old child who was at school at the time when the incident happened.
The family lived in small house rent for selling beers and other few household items. According to the neighbors the wife was the one who searched for the money to start such small business.
Witnesses affirm that Gatabazi has always expressed his willingness to kill his wife due to her refusal to let him spoil all the assets reserved for the well functioning of the business.
As the husband kept urging the wife to sell all their belongings , Kanjongo, the dead wife, left the house so to remain safe.
Meanwhile, Gatabazi bought a hummer as he waited the wife to be back and kill her. As not to be suspected, he told neighbors that he changed his perception towards towards the management of the household.
Seemingly, he simulated his evil wishes to kill his wife. The Executive secretary of the Nyakabanda cell told UM– USEKE that administration officials tried to re-unite both wife and husband.
Gatabazi agreed to abandon his wishes but he had a hidden agenda to kill his lady.
After observing that unity was impossible for them to materialize, officials decided to separate them as to let each of them live comfortably.
The wife decided to rend her own house in Kimironko. As she back home to take up some of her belongings, the husband was hidden somewhere and he saw the wife back home, the man wake up and killed her using a machete.
After killing the wife, he attempted to suicide himself through throwing himself in the street to be killed by a lorry that was bypassing but it didn’t.
Gatabazi was injured at the leg and in the head but did not die. He was taken to hospital in CHUK to be treated.
