Mogens Lykkentoft who leads the general assembly of the United Nations recently revealed that the successor of the current UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon will be elected in a more democratic way than the preceding ones.
Since this January, the UN state members were allowed to present the aspiring candidates to the UN high leadership.
Ban Ki-Moon has ruled the UN affairs for eight years and this term is the last one and will expire at the end of this year.
As matter of interest, only five candidates have presented their credentials.
Those include Irina Bokova( currently leading the UNESCO), Danilo Turk( former President of the Republic of Slovenia, Vesna Pusic (from Croatia), Igor Luksic( from Montenegro) and Srgjan Kerim (from Macedonia).
Since its creation, only two Secretary Generals were Africans. Those are Koffi Annan from Ghana and Boutros Boutros-Ghali from Egypt.
