The deadly rain that rained on Saturday, destroyed more than 200 houses located in different districts such as Gasabo, Nyanza,  Rutsiro and Nyarugenge.

As she was addressing the media on this issue, Minister in charge of the refugees and disaster management Seraphine Mukantabana revealed that the rain has damaged more houses than thought before.

She said that the damage was more crucial than all that the rain destroyed in three past months.

Min Mukantabana said that the dead ones were killed by thunders, landslides and floods.

For the Minister, some information about the high risk zones’ dwellers is misrepresented therefore impacting on rescue activities in case of calamities.

This is misrepresentation of the facts on high risk zones’ dweller involves the fact that in case of heavy rain calamity people die, she said.

She therefore said that the Ministry is trying to collect as clear and complete statistics as possible about the dwellers in these zones so that they can be relocated.

According to the Minister Mukantabana, the deadly disasters result from the geographical set up of Rwanda combined with human activities that destabilize the soil.

The most affected area in Rwanda is Kigali city where human activities are more intense.
