As he was hosting the current prosecutor general of the newly established United Nations Mechanism for the International Criminal tribunal (MICT), Mr Serge Brammertz , the Rwandan Minister of Justice Johnston Busingye urged him to facilitate the ongoing procedure that aims at helping Rwanda acquire and host the juridical documents of the cases that the former International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda has treated.
The talks between both officials focused on the cordial relations between Rwanda and the MICT and how it can keep improving that way.
As a newly appointed prosecutor general, Minister Busigye promised him better partnership and wished him luck and success.
Min Johnston Busigye told Mr Serge Brammertz that Rwanda appreciated how the former ICTR fulfilled its duties in trying the former genocide suspects.
He put an emphasis on the fact that the former court transferred some cases to be tried in Rwanda where the genocide itself has been committed.
However, Min Busigye urged him to back Rwanda in its efforts to remind the international community that the genocide suspects who are still hiding in different countries should be arrested, judged either in the countries where they have been arrested or extradited to Rwanda.
Minister Busigye told the MICT chief prosecutor that Rwanda keenly wants the dossiers of the already judged cases to be given to Rwanda to be well conserved as a national treasury and heritage.
As the dossiers reveal the truth about the preparation and the execution of the genocide against the Tutsi, they are of a great importance of the conservation of the history of the genocide against the Tutsi, Min Busingye reminded.
At his side, Serge Bremmertz affirmed his commitment to work in harmony with Rwandan justice as to finalize the remaining cases.
He said that he will advocate for the extradition of the above mentioned dossiers to Rwanda through bilateral talks with concerned bodies.
