The Head of State Paul Kagame has officially inaugurated a power plant installed in Lake Kivu, in Karongi district, Western Province.
The electric power from that plant is generated from the methane gas usually found in Kivu Lake and will be providing around 100 MegaWatt not later than 2020.
The availability of this electricity package will boost development in its different facets such as industry, services and tourism.
As a nation that aims at helping its citizens acquire better living status, Rwanda invests in various fields that can help in the materialization of these policies.
This project is part of four others initiated by Rwandan government.
Though Rwanda targets a self sufficiency status in energy production and consumption, the journey is still too long as its current energy package stands at 186 MegaWatts only.
The today’s inaugurated factory started producing the electricity converted from the methane gas since six months ago.
It produces additional 26 MW. Its construction started into 2009 and has cost Rwanda with 150 Billion Rwf.
The second phase will provide Rwanda with 75 MW while the third one will provide not less than 100 MW.
After officially inaugurating the plant, President Kagame toured it as to observe how technologically it has been constructed.
