The Diane Fossey Fund announced this Friday saddened by the death of Mountain gorilla silverback Giraneza following an undisclosed illness. Giraneza was family chief and two females and two infants left in Giraneza Group are being monitored.
Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International said “ They have been separated from him (Giraneza) since last week, when he became ill, and are traveling alone. We will be closely following these mothers and infants, and will post updates here and on our website.”
Giraneza was 22 year old Silverback mountain gorilla.
Mountain Gorillas are one of the marvelous animals that attract a large number of tourists to Virunga Parks, they are the rare Mountain Gorillas remaining in the world.
