The Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday defeated Cameroon 1-0 in Garoua to claim a vital lead in the Central Zone 2014 African Nations Championship qualifying playoff ahead of the return leg of August 30 in Lubumbashi.
The Leopards’ winner came through Mubele Ndombe in the 68th minute, which sent shock waves across the northern Cameroonian city.
Both sides will meet by end of the month for the reverse fixture, with the Congolese hosting. However, the two teams will be doing without a number of their players who will be participating in the Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup group phase.
The team that wins on aggregate will qualify for the tournament holding in South Africa next January.
