The parish of St Michel celebrated yesterday t its 50th golden jubilee. The feast which started with the celebration of the mass, took place at camp Kigali stadium in presence of some political honors, the Pope representative in Rwanda, religious figures from different churches, and Roman Catholic Church followers accompanied with friends and relatives.
The Roman Catholic church has contribute significantly to social and economic development of Kigali through setting up diverse projects.
Local Christians agree on the living improvement the Parish has brought up in the area.
KAMUTAMU Josee, a veteran Christian from this Parish since 1964, acknowledges the effective involvement of Christians to the church’s progress. She said that Christians in the 1960’s were reluctant to contribute in the church’s activities, which is different to today’s Christians.
Some Christians who talked to Umuseke.com said they are rejoiced about this event. They say they have been waiting for this day for so long.
The Archbishop of Kigali Tadeyo NTIHINYURWA, addressing Christians, thanked the clergy and Christians from this parish to have collaborated for the Parish’s spiritual and economic advancement.
The St Micheal Parish was built in 1963 by White Fathers chaired by Bishop Andre Perraudin. Since then ,it contributed to local advancement of local Christians through different socio-cultural initiatives.
