A meeting between the RURA, Kigali city officials and three transport companies that are legally recognized to provide transportation services in Kigali city has assessed the level at which these services are being provided.
Mayor of the City Ndayisaba Fidele said that the reason for issuing the new transport system was to ensure quality services especially because of the number of the passengers keeps increasing.
He added that a passenger who is given poor transport service should report to due bodies using a hotline call number.
The participants in the meeting also debated on the new transport line: Kabuga- Road labeled 12 – Kigali Parents- Kimironko- Kibagabaga-Kinamba and Nyabugogo. This new line will replace the old one that started from Kabuga- Remera- Kacyiru( or Rwandex) and ended at Nyabugogo.
Officials affirmed that this new system aims at easing the accessibility of western parts of the city. The new line will help to reduce the occurrence of the traffic jam in the road Kabuga- Remera- Rwandex (or Kacyiru) Nyabugogo.
Drivers of the buses claimed that the new line bring them into loss as the line involved an area that challenges cars especially the area 12 up to Kigali parents school towards Kimironko, an area that makes their cars consume a lot of oil.
One of the issues discussed is that buses stop the services too early in the night while the contract stipulates that the services continue until 11 PM.
To this Col Twahirwa Dodo the manager of the RFTC responded that during these hours passengers are too many and want to get back home and this makes brings about the lack of sufficient cars to carry them home.
Even though new transport systems are being established, still passengers affirm that the queue to get cars are long especially during the starting and ending hours of people’s daily activities.
