Yesterday evening, heavy rains have destroyed people’s houses especially in Kimihurura area called Kosovo. The disaster killed three children in Kinyinya and a girl despaired due to floods that devastated Nyakabanda Sector in Nyarugenge District.
In Intambwe cell, Kosovo area, in Kimihurura 20 houses were destroyed and MIDMAR affirms two children passed away due the land slide, killing two children in Nyarugenge. In Kosovo area many houses were destroyed and inhabitants have become shelter less.
Elderly Gaparasa living in Kosovo said this is the first time they encounter such disaster. His house is completely down.
Mayor of GasaboNdizeye Willy affirms the disaster worsened due to poor settlement in the area. He urged settlers to relocate in areas that are safer than these as to prevent such disasters from happening.
We urge all people living in the neighboring areas of valley to resettle somewhere else, said Willy Ndizeye.
Mayor of Gasabo assured people who experienced such disasters that all necessary efforts to help them will be provided accordingly.
