Eight families from the Gatare cell, In Rusosoro sector affirm that the lives are endangered by proximity of a rock processing factory established in their neighborhood. The UM– USEKE reporter visited the site where big rocks are processed and found out the severity of the situation.
Local people say that some of the stones jump to their houses and destroy the crops in the fields.
Another challenge they encounter relates to the sound pollution that comes from the huge machines in the factory.
Another issue that threatens our lives relates to the sand that enters our houses from the factory, said one the parents.
Parents are fearful about the health of their children in the future as they are exposed to such noisy sounds everyday coming from the neighboring factory.
Our children are developing traumatic behaviors resulting from the dangerous daily exposure to heavily devastating pollution, some of the parents told UM– USEKE reporter.
A parent affirms that a cow and two men died due to the negative consequences of the proximity of the factory.
Mukanziga Jacqueline urges competent organs to pay them the amount of money so to allow them to relocate somewhere else.
Muheto Jean Claude, the secretary executive says he knows the situation and says that he is currently trying to find out a solution in partnership with the factory managers.
We advised the factory managers to mix water with the rocks before the processing so to reduce sand from attacking the nearby houses, said Muheto Jean Claude.
People living at Rusororo appreciate the presence of infrastructure in the area but affirm that their lives are more precious than the factory that endangers their lives.
