ALGERIA-BASED Christopher Mukunzi (El Fanar) and Lawrence Yakan Guma (ESS) are expected in the country this weekend to join their teammates ahead of the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Championships qualifiers scheduled in Cameroon from February 12 to 24.
Rwanda Volleyball Federation secretary general Christian Hatumimana said: “Arrangements are on-going to have the players report in camp as soon as possible.”
According to the official, Mukunzi is expected in the country on January 31, while Lawrence will arrive on February 2.
Before the Cameroon games, Paul Bitok’s side is scheduled to play five more build-up matches.
Meanwhile, the Botswana national team, which lost two games to Rwanda in Gaborone over the weekend, arrives in Kigali on Saturday for another pair of matches this weekend.
Rwanda won the first two ties, 3-1 and 3-0.
After the weekend action against Botswana, the national volleyball team will then travel to Nairobi where they will play their Kenyan counterparts as well Prisons and GSU clubs.
Bitok is looking to use the matches to further prepare his team, which is gunning for top spot in one of the three qualifying tournaments for the 2014 World Championships.
The other two slots will go to the winners in two other groups which will play their final qualifiers in Kenya and Tunisia.
On the African continent, the campaign kicks off in February with three tournaments in Kenya (February 5-11), Cameroon (February 12-18) and Tunisia (March 2-8).
