Facebook is the most visited social media in the world, counting over one billion of users daily. Today, on 3 th February it cerebrates its 10th anniversary. Its users told UM– USEKE what they find interesting, frustrating or harmful in using the Facebook.
150 respondents who responded to UM– USEKE affirmed that they spend not less than three hours a day using Facebook.
Asked about the importance of using Facebook, the big majority revealed that Facebook helps them to connected and communicated with fellow and learn on different issues that are happening elsewhere.
Some say that the Facebook has helped them n find a job and enjoy different games and funny moments. Other respondents said the use of Facebook is cost effective, it’s not like using a phone in communicating with others.
Concerning the importance that Facebook has for Rwanda as a nation, some said that there is nothing significant while others affirm they came to know that there exist different and effective ways to get information rather than radio or TV.
Other respondents find Facebook as a real tool that officials use to communicate with their subordinates. It also helps in showing to the world how Rwanda is growing in terms of economic development.
However there are different and negative effects of Facebook that include: an increased stress, a waste of time, it hinders the service providers from playing their role, some of its users can post immoral and blaspheming comments, photos or videos.
Someone can use your Facebook account and show to the world the wrong identity of you, some of our respondents said.
One of our respondents said he/she has been using Facebook for 12 years and this not true.
The most liked photo at Facebook is the one of Obama and wife Michelle with 4 million likes. Singer Rihanna is the most liked artist in the world through Facebook.
Experts from Princeton universities through their study affirmed that Facebook will no longer be operational in 2017 due to different circumstances.
