The President of International Association of Chiefs of Police IACP, Yousry Zakhary, on March 2, visited the Rwanda National Police (RNP) and commended the force’s achievements in ensuring safety in the country and beyond.
“You have really done a significant work and you have a beautiful country,” Mr. Zakhary observed.
He thanked Rwanda and the RNP in particular for hosting the 3rd IACP Sub Saharan Africa Executive Policing Conference, which he said will strengthen cooperation among Police forces and exchange of best practices to combat cross-border crimes.
“Criminals have no borders. They do not care about the effects of their evil acts.
Continued cooperation in exchanging timely information and networking is vital for law enforcers to fight transnational crimes such as cybercrime and proliferation of illicit fire arms,” he said.
The Inspector General of Rwanda National Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, who briefed the IACP President on the RNP policing programmes, said regional Police forces are engaged in various joint policing activities.
“Policing is all about partnership. Therefore, cooperation is vital to make our citizens safer,” the IGP said.
The Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) which brings together 13 regional countries was recently merged with the international police body – Interpol – to make African Police Cooperation Organisation (AFRIPOL), a move aimed at strengthening efforts against crimes.
He pledged the RNP commitment to ensure that IACP becomes more resourceful to police forces to ensure security on the continent and beyond.
