A 22-year-old Rwandan named Sudi Nsengiyumva who was critically injured after being struck by a car in Costa Mesa over the weekend has died, the Orange County County coroner said.
Hospital staff at the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana pronounced Sudi Nsengiyumva of Riverside dead Wednesday afternoon, according to a Costa Mesa police statement.
Witnesses reported seeing Nsengiyumva leaving the Costa Mesa Courtyards shopping center around 9:15 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of Newport Boulevard.
He attempted to cross the northbound lanes at an area where there was no crosswalk and was struck by an oncoming 2007 Toyota Corolla traveling at a normal speed, the statement said.
Nsengiyumva was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The driver of the vehicle, Jaffa Pinchas, 61, of North Tustin, stayed at the scene. She did not show any signs of being under the influence and was not cited or arrested.
