Kigali, Rwanda. September 15, 2014. Airtel Rwanda has launched an unparalleled promotion dubbed Its Now Free loosely translated as Noneho N’ubuntu that will see all airtel customers enjoy free airtel Money transactions.
According to the Airtel Rwanda Managing Director, Mr. Teddy Bhullar, the move further marks the telecom’s commitment to drive financial inclusion, accessibility and affordability of mobile financial services to Rwandans.
He said, “This promotion will give our customers and Rwandans an opportunity to use the airtel money mobile platform and interact with all the services we offer. Customers will be able to send and receive money, buy electricity as well as make other transactions at no cost.”
Noneho N’ubuntu promotion aims to extend mobile commerce solutions across the country. According to the national bank, the target is to have a penetration level of financial services of 80% of the country’s population by 2017. Noneho N’ubuntu will take long strides in realizing this target as Rwandans will be able to make financial transactions more affordably.
Commenting on the promotion, Mr. Phillip Onzoma, Head of Airtel Money and Corporate Business at Airtel Rwanda, said the company will also put emphasis on educating its customers on the benefits of using Airtel Money mobile commerce solutions to further enhance their way of living and doing business in today’s modern commercial environment.
Airtel Money currently has a customer base of over 680,000 customers and over 10,000 airtel money agents across the country. In addition airtel money launched an industry first which enabled ATM cardless withdrawals; making it possible for customers to withdraw money from all I&M bank ATMs in the country.
The mobile solutions platform was launched in 2012 and has since added more features to the services including buying data bundles with airtel money as well as paying for construction permits to City of Kigali.
