Airtel Rwanda Rewards Women Change Makers in the Society

Airtel Rwanda has today awarded the winner who was voted as the woman change maker of choice by the social media community. Mumararungu Mary Goreth the first winner, was awarded in honor of this year’s International Women’s Day in which Airtel Rwanda formed a campaign to celebrate and reward women change-makers in the society.

The campaign had three winners who were chosen by virtue of their work in their communities. The winners were; Mumararungu Mary Goreth, First Lady Jeanette Kagame through her work of Imbuto Foundation and Gasana Edna Darlene.

It is with this appreciation of Mumararungu Mary Goreth that Airtel gave 30 goats to her so she could help her community. Mary Goreth distributed the 30 goats among the families and ladies of the community in Gisali, Kinazi Sector, Ruhango District in the southern province of Rwanda.

Speaking at the handover, one of the benefactors applauded the work that Mary Goreth was doing and thanked Airtel for recognizing her as one of the women change makers.

“This project is a good initiative for our community and we shall breed the goats which will in turn multiply and we can use them for milk production. We can sell the milk and get some money for our families.” She said.

Representing the Executive Secretary of Kinazi Sector, Mr. Sinamenye Marcel was thankful of the work by Mary Goreth and Airtel Rwanda’s contribution in appreciating the massive work being done by her.

The campaign required participants to send a story about a woman who had done tremendous work to empower and impact her society. The story was to be not more than 300 words and was to start with the tag line; I’m going ALL IN FOR HER because…

Participants were advised to highlight more about their selected women change makers projects or efforts in ensuring a better tomorrow, to share a photo of her and her projects or advocacy. The story was then verified and uploaded on the Airtel Rwanda Facebook page and twitter account. The photo with the most likes, shares, retweets and favorite won and Airtel Rwanda agreed to support the top three most engaging posts.

Commenting on the initiative, Airtel Rwanda Managing Director, Mr. Teddy Bhullar said, “Women remain major players in changing our society. We would like to celebrate them through this campaign and also support their projects through our staff volunteer program and sustainable initiatives. This is to celebrate women’s achievements, celebrate womanhood and pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of women.”
