APACOPE was created by a certain Shamukiga Charles who aimed at setting up a secondary school ready to host Tutsi students who were hindered from attending other public schools due to the ethnic discrimination that was reigned in the then government.
The school has commemorated over 255 innocent Tutsi students who studied in the APACOPE but killed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
One of the former students of APACOPE, Mazimpaka Jean Claude told UM– USEKE reporter that this is the third commemoration of theTutsi students who were massacred by the Interahamwe militias during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi..
The students who are currently pursuing their studies in APACOPE were urged to promote the peace culture and fight against everything susceptible to revive hatred and the genocide ideology among Rwandans.
The children who are orphans from the families of the deceased parents were given the opportunities to learn freely and get needed knowledge to forge a better future.
