The Rwandan Minister of natural resources , Dr Vincent Biruta told UN officials that for urbanization to be effective, settlers who come from rural areas should be facilitated to comfortably and effectively intergrate the urban life.
He said that urban settlers should be informed and assisted in protecting the environment if the urban life is meant to be sustainable and healthy.
Dr Biruta told his audience that Rwandan government is willing to establish other satellites cities that will accommodate people and infrastructures as to hinder a massive rural exodus to Kigali city that is more likely to be over populated if nothing is done to prevent this from happening.
Rwandan Minister of natural resources told UN officials that Rwandan government is will to make this happen and allow its socioeconomic grow increase.
This is an imperative to Rwandan government as its population keeps growing and more are keen to integrate urban life.
He added that Rwandan demography grows as at 5.9% yearly. This growth is far larger than the worldly recognisez demographic growth.
28 per cent of Rwandans are urban dwellers and, according to Minister Biruta, the percentage grows as the living conditions of Rwandans are improving and more infrastructures are being set up nationwide.
Statistical previsions predict that 35% of Rwandans will be urban based in 2020. Due to this trend, Minister Biruta argues world leaders to set urban plans that allow varying population layers to integrate cities and able to be environmental friendly.
Dr Biruta affirms that Rwanda has worked, as still works, closely with the UN Habitat in elaborating and implementing effective urbanization polices known as National Urbanization Policy.
He advocated for strengthening young people’s skills on job creation as to allow them employ their colleagues and, ,therefore, contribute to the effectiveness of the urban life.
Participants in this high level conference convene to apply the UN Habitat established policies related to urbanization so to hinder more-complex urban challenges from happening.
