Burundian authorities urge Rwandans living abroad to search for legal papers allowing them to live there in legal manners. This has been decided upon by both Mayor of Kirundo Province Mr Nzigamasabo Reverien and Mr Munyentwali Alphonse of South Province in Rwanda.
This meeting has taken place in Kirundo and was attended by different dignitaries from both sides to discuss on how Rwandans living in Burundi can acquire visa that can allow to keep living in Burundi after in recent times some of them have been forced to return back home.
The meeting has decided that Rwandan husbands married to Burundian wives are not concerned with this decision. The decision only concerns the rest of Rwandans who still do not have the papers.
Both sides underlined to necessity of sensitizing the population about the law governing migration as to prevent them from being chased away in unpredictable manner.
The meeting did not precise the exact date at which all Rwandans are obliged to have acquired their papers however they have enough time to acquire them.
In last two weeks, Burundian authorities have forced around 100 Rwandans to return home but meanwhile statistics show that other 500 Rwandans are still living in Burundi in unlawful way.
