This decision is taken after the local political officials discovered an increased number of Burundians living there without identification papers, a situation that threatens the security issues as committing robbery, among other cases. Thus, the Burundians living there are urged to return in their homeland to bring identification papers.
Most of them practice the agricultural activities, brick making and cattle keeping occupations.
However, some of the Burundians who are hosted in the sectors of the Kibungo, Kazo and Gashanda urged local leaders to ease the decision as it is difficulty for them to find the needed ID papers in their homeland.
Ngoma dwellers told UM– USEKE that Burundians who are working in their neighborhood should return home and search for ID papers so that they might be allowed to live and operate in Rwanda comfortably.
Locals say that the ones who do not have these papers get involved into robbery related cases and this should be fought against, they claim.
The exective secretary of the Kibungo sector Mapendo Gilbert utters that the aim is not to chase out Burundians from the sector but to ensure that the ones living there do have all needed identification papers and be registered for their safety as well as the one of Rwandans.
This decision concerns only Burundians living in Ngoma district even though in the same district there are Congolese but who fulfill the needed conditions.
