The former Chadian Minister of foreign affairs Moussa Faki Mahamat is elected by his pairs as the current leader of the African Union. He was in a fiery run up with the Kenyan Amina Muhamed.
The election was carried up in three main phases whereby the first one featured the Botswana Minister of foreign affairs Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, Equatorial Guinea foreign affairs minister and the Senegalese Abdoulaye Bathily.
The second phase comprised of Kenyan Amina Mohamed (who represented the EAC) and the Chadian Mahamat who won the race with 39 %.
The current Moussa Faki Mahamat is entrusted to rule for five years mandate after renewable one time. The outgoing Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma was close friend of Rwanda.
