A single man who regularly ate pizza, chips, crisps and family size pork pies has lost 15 stone after he became too heavy for his scales. Richard Chance, 25, gave up his love of junk food to cut down from over 28 stone to 13 stone 10lbs. The outreach worker from Ceredigion, West Wales hopes his new slim-line look will help him find love as he now looks for a girlfriend.
Richard said: ‘Now I’d just like to find a soulmate I can share my life with.
‘Gone are the days when I used to shut myself in my bedroom playing computer games for hours whilst eating pizza.’
He added: ‘I used to eat pizza, chips, crisps, family size pork pies, and many other bad drinks and foods, so overcoming this habit was tough at first.
‘But I managed to hold these cravings back 95 per cent of the time, which helped my weight loss.
‘I found it difficult to walk just 900 yards let alone exercise intensively.
‘But over time I’ve started to enjoy it and it’s got to the stage now where I want to do more.
‘I got out of breath very quickly and felt my life draining away in front of my eyes which was a very scary thing.’
Richard said his lowest point came at the wheel of his car.
‘I was driving one day on my day off and I suddenly felt very depressed and started to have bad thoughts about doing something I would regret,’ he said.
‘The following day I was working a night shift and as I was clocking off a colleague came in the next morning drinking a Herbalife shake.
‘I asked her to put me in contact with her wellness coach – I knew I had to do something and if I didn’t go that day I wouldn’t go at all.’
He was told to meet Kate Williams who got him started on his weight-loss plan.
Richard said: ‘At the time I was very emotional as I was too heavy to even get a reading on her scales.
‘Now I work really closely with Kate and her support group and have a much better idea about nutrition.
‘She taught me how to live a healthy active lifestyle and encouraged me to go along to her Fit Camps.
‘I was initially nervous about exercising in front of other people but I’ve overcome my fear now and go as often as I can as well as going to the gym.
‘Working on my fitness has now opened up a whole new lifestyle for me; I now really enjoy getting out into the Pembrokeshire countryside and love doing coastal walks.’
