The renown psychiatric medical expert Dr Nasson Munyandamutsa has passed away at his home at Kimironko, Gasabo, Kigali city.
He was born in the former Kibuye prefecture and was 56 years old.
He started his carrier in 1986 and, in 2011, he was awarded with the “ Prix Genève 2011” to recognize his efforts in psychological medicine and in the provision of the human rights.
After the genocide against the Tutsis in 1994, Dr Nasson Munyandamutsa played a significant role in trauma treatment of both survivors and the perpetrators.
Dr Munyandamutsa taught at the University of Rwanda in medicine faculty. He attended that very university and graduated in the medicine in 1980.
During the genocide against the Tutsis, he was in Swiss attending university studies. At his return to Rwanda, he sadly found most of his family members were massacred by genocide perpetrators.
He worked at the Ndera psychiatric medical centre in 1996.
