The EALGA, in its annual meeting held in Umubano Hotel elected its executive commitee. Fredrick Gume was elected the chair person of the executive committee of the EALGA and he nominated Hon Dr. Didas John Massaburi from Tanzania to be his vice, where there are supposed to hold a two year term.
In the voting of the executive committee, the representatives of the association of local government from Burundi, ABELO said that they have difficulties which hinders them from establishing a direct and strong the executive committee of this association.
In a short interview with us Mr. KANGWAGYE Justus, the director of RALGA, the mayor of Rulindo district and the member of the Ex-executive committee, said that on the part of Rwanda, it is very important to be in such international associations because they can learn many thing from other local governments and how to improve lives of their people.
Some mayor of districts from every participant country said that there are backbones of good governance in their countries. And It is the reason why they should work hard and cooperate for the well being of the region.
Some of those who talked to us also said that apart from some misunderstandings which are said to be among some countries of the East African Countries, local authorities (mayors of certain districts and towns) have no problems with that. They say their priority is peace in the region.
