The EU Ambassador Michael Ryan who attended the celebration said that the Union is currently more willing to partner with Rwanda than before it showed strong commitment to utilize the aid more effectively.
Rwandan Minister of foreign affairs Louise Mushikiwabo told the gathering that Rwanda is willing to back the EU efforts to neutralize the terror threat in its soil and abroad.
She also promised that Rwanda will work closely with the European Union in handling immigration issue that is burdening Europe.
The celebration took place on Monday, 09, May, 2016 at the EU Ambassador‘s home and has brought together all EU state members ambassadors operating in Rwanda.
The EU Ambassador Michael Ryan thanked all the participants for their availability that made the event a real one.
He told the participants that the day is very important to EU members as it marks the date where former belligerents, namely France and Germany, stopped their divergences and embraced unity and prosperity.
This facilitated the rest o European countries to join the European Union, afterwards.
May, 09, 1950, the former Prime Minister of France Jean- Baptist Nicholas Robert Schuman elaborated and made public his thought for the European countries to create Union that was meant to avoid mutual conflicts and create a friendly involvement for economy.
Amb Ryan urged his counterparts to be united stronger than before against terror that is targeting different parts and nations of Europe.
He lauded the fact European countries have achieved the ideal of liberty that is guiding its citizens.
The Union has played a significant role in re-establishing peace and harmony in different countries of the world.
Regarding the paths that Rwanda has achieved towards unity and reconciliation have been recognized by the participants.
Ryan said that EU has played a significant role in reviving reconciliation between Rwandans and promised that the Union will support the Rwanda’s efforts to avoid that a genocide can erupt anywhere in the world.
Through this partnership between Rwanda and EU, Rwanda will gain more support o boost its economy and other sectors of national life.
The EU Ambassador Michael Ryan urged the participants to stand and take one minute of silence in memory of the victims of the recent disasters that took lives of over 50 persons, the most affected areas being Western and Northern provinces.
Rwandan Minister of foreign affairs Mushikiwabo reminded that the Union that Europe enjoys now resulted from the effective leadership that EU has known.
She added that Rwandans have an effective leadership that aims at making the country more self reliant.
She thereafter added that Rwanda and th European Union are good partners in different points that benefit to both sides.
Min Mushikiwabo expressed her sorrow feelings about the recent attacks that have shaken Belgium and France.
She therefore promised that Rwanda will be at the EU’ side in its war again terror.
