Female police women are equally responsible of household activities –Min Fazil

Rwandan Minister of internal security Mussa Fazil Harerimana told police women who are in Rwanda to attend a 7th retreat that their duty as police agents should not replace their motherhood responsibilities. The retreat is attended by 650 police women and female agents working in different governmental security entities including the Rwanda Correctional Services.

Minister Mussa Fazil Harerimana

Musa Fazil Harerimana who was the guest of honor in the inaugurating activity reminded the audience that the keeping their respective countries safe should be done jointly with their family responsibilities and therefore urged them to be willing to fulfill both duties together.

Female police officers who are attending the symposium will be assessing the last year’s achievements while planning for future activities in preventing and investigating crimes in their respective countries.

Min Harerimana commended the RNP authority for having applied the national police of women inclusion in policing activities as the national quota of 30% of women in the institution has been applied.

However, the current percentage is 20% of women in RNP’ wings.

The UNDP representative in Rwanda, Stephen Rodrigues, lauded the contribution of Rwanda National Police to secure Rwanda and provide needed support to other countries where security becomes threatened.

He also thanked President Paul Kagame who backed the ‘He for She’ Initiative that upholds gender equality.

Regarding the Isange One Stop Center program, Rodriguez said that is a good initiative that highlights how Rwandan government upholds the value of its citizens.

Stephen Rodrigues promised that the UNDP will keep providing its support to Rwandan government as to be more successful on its policies.

The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K Gasana said that the institution has taken firm decisions to protect women’s rights and this was recognized by the international community as the African anti-gender based violence office is based in Kigali.

IGP Gasana added that the Rwandan female police agents do perform well as their male counterparts and this qualifies them to be highly ranked.

Two female police officers who talked to Umuseke, namely Sgt Mwezi Teta and CP Rose Muhisoni said that being a police agent while being a female does not hinder them from being a wife and a mother who cares to her household.

CSP Muhisoni said that policing job is a pleasant one as it equips one with necessary knowledge and means to protect his/her nation against harmful crimes.

This police women’s retreat will be followed by a High Level National Police Summit few weeks later.
