The general Attorney of France opposes a decision taken by the Douai court to extradite 1994’s genocide suspects to Rwanda. He criticizes that the court that took the decision did not ask information to the general attorney’s office in Paris.
Among the suspects who were to be sent to Rwanda included Claude Muhayimana, Innocent Mushimiyimana , Col Laurent Serubuga.
The Office of the attorney general in France claim that in Rwanda, the law that that charges the genocide perpetrators was not in action, it came into existence two years later, they say.
The second reason they raise concerns the credibility of Rwandan judicial system they consider unfair.
Claude Muhayimana told the RFI that he is innocent , claiming that he denied to sign upon a document that accused the French soldiers in Rwanda to have participated into genocide and he refused, he said.
The general attorney says that the suspects will be tried in France as Simbikangwa will be tried by Paris court.
Alain Gauthier , the spokesperson of the umbrella of the organisations for the rights of the 1994 genocide survivors living in France, says that the reasons provided by the General Attorney’s office are baseless.
He deplores the claims that there is no justice in Rwanda while different suspects have been extradited to Rwanda and received due justice.
