As Rwanda celebrates the International Political decentralization Day in Gekenke, The CEO of the RGB, Prof Shyaka Anastase called upon local government leaders to increase the respect they owe to citizens as current Rwandans’ mindsets have changed for the better.
The Mayor of Gakenke district Nzamwita Deogratias informed that the poverty rate has decreased since 2011 to 2014 from 56% to 42%.
Prof Shyaka said that the poverty reduction has been achieved through the close partnership of leaders and citizens and this is an indication that the later have acquired positive mindsets that enabled them to achieve more.
It also helped them denounce misbehaving attitudes from local leaders, a sign of political maturity Rwandans have, Prof Shyaka added.
He called upon citizens to remain firm is advocating for their rights and strive for it to be maintained.
Prof Shyaka reminded the leaders that leading current Rwandans differ from the former ones as the present ones have got smarter and should be treated fairly and in a democratic way.
Gakenke residents expressed their gratitude for the achievements got since 1994 including infrastructures such as hospitals, modernized roads, among others.
They are gratitude that they are no longer traveling long distances to offices to express their concerns.
