On Monday, the Rwandan Minister in the ministry of land and forestry management, Ms Francine Tumushime has awarded best school performing girls in Gakenke district, in Northern Province of Rwanda.
She did that as she was representing the First Lady Jeannette Kagame who is the Chairperson of the Imbuto Foundation which supports poor but clever school girls in throughout their schooling.
Minister Tumushime congratulated 80 girls for their excelling performance in their respective school levels (Primary, O Level and A Level).
She reminded that the historically education for girls was estimated to the low lever, claiming that they are less clever than their brothers but currently the trend keeps changing, she said.
These historical stereotypes generated a positive endeavors from current Rwandan leaders to undertake a new educational policy that is inclusive, allowing girls to attend schools at all levels.
Min Tumushime underlined the Imbuto Foundation chose to award best school performing girls as a means to encourage them and their little sisters to keep performing better and undertake their schooling further.
She thanked the First Lady Jeannette Kagame who has set up this new platform that helps economically poor but intellectually able girls to attend education and get prepared for their future as mothers of Rwanda.
One of the girls who were awarded for their school performance named Rolande Umuhoza, 18, said that her hard work in learning was the key in her best performance.
Umuhoza encourages other girls to invest more time and energy in learning if success is to be achieved.
She revealed her dreams to become an expert in ‘Software development’ of a computer engineer.
The Imbuto Foundation will award 173 girls from different districts of Rwanda.
Since its inception in 2005 it has awarded not less than 4 680 girls.
