The new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, is to be sworn in today at the Parliamentary Buildings in Kimuhurura.
Also to take the oath of office today is Dan Munyuza, who was transferred from the Military to the Police as Deputy Inspector General in charge of Operations with the rank of Deputy Commissioner General of Police.
The ceremony is expected to be presided over by President Paul Kagame.
Nyamvumba, (pictured) who had just completed a tour of duty in Sudan where he was the force commander of the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), was promoted to a full general and appointed CDS by President Kagame last month.
He replaced Lt. Gen. Charles Kayonga.
In other changes announced by the President, on June 21, Brig. Gen. Jack Nziza, former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, was promoted to Maj. Gen. and took on the new duties of Inspector General of the Rwanda Defence Forces. Nziza was replaced in the ministry by newly-promoted Col. Joseph Rutabana.
Also promoted to Major General was Brig. Gen. Richard Rutatina
