She said that yesterday in Gicumbi after receiving children’s concerns about their living conditions both at their respective homes and schools.
One of the children(12 years) revealed to the Minister of gender and family promotion Gasinzigwa Oda that the father threaten them as he frequently terrorize them that he will kill them one day.
This was confirmed by the child’s mother who added that in certain circumstances they re-settle to neighbor, fearing the harmful deeds of her husband.
She told the Minister that the Executive secretary of the Gacurabwenge cell did not resolve the problem yet and this hinders her from feeling safe and work for her family’ prosperity.Another child told the Minister that even though her, his family is self sustained, the challenge to endure is that one of the parents has developed the heavy drinking habit, a situation that endangers the security of the family.
Some of the children said that they dropped the schools due to the lack of school fees and learning materials. Other female children left the schools due to early pregnancies and family refusal to sustain both the babes and their young mothers.
Local children who presented their concerns to Minister Oda Gasinzigwa , urged her to kindly advise the parents in general so that the later ones may abandon the above mentioned harmful behaviors.
For them, these behaviors hamper the socio-economic development of the families, a situation that weakens the national development.
Throughout the past 20 years, different initiatives were taken to enhance the welfare of Rwandan children. These include 30 centers for children with disabilities, 45 children are currently living with their respective families.
A wide range mobilization has been conducted nationwide so that the general public might be aware of the necessity to protect the children for a better of future of the nation.
In her speech, Minister of Gender and Family promotion Oda Gasinzigwa, she emphasized the duties of the parents to protect their children and avoid beating them in any case but to reprimand them with loving-kindness so that they might grow up with dignity.
