The Mayor of Gicumbi Juvenal Mudaheranwa warned the district’s residents to be cautious and avoid risky sexual intercourse as the HIV/AIDS prevalence has reached an alarming rate of 3.6%.
He said that yesterday as Gicumbi residents and authorities were commemorating the World AIDS Day.
The statistical statements reveal that AIDS contaminated not less than 3% among Rwandans.
More concerned people are sexual workers from different cities of Rwanda.
Mayor of Gicumbi Mudaheranwa called upon residents to undergo medical test as to know their health situation and behave accordingly.
He reminded that if one finds him/her as being a HIV/AIDS positive, there are medical drugs to help him/her live in a relative state.
As the celebration went on, the Manager of the Byumba Hospital Dr Jean de Dieu Twizeyimana insisted on the fact that strong mobilization of the population to fight against the spreading of the AIDS should be enhanced.
More emphasis should be put on mobilizing youth to avoid unprotected sex, he said.
Sexual workers are pointed out as being the powerful vectors of the HIV/AIDS.
