Governance month: Citizens express their issues but in sorrow

This annual program headed by RGB and the Ministry of local government aims at assessing how effectively people’s cases are handled and how satisfactory people are about it.  This year governance month started in Nyabihu district, Shyira Sector  where numerous locals attended the event and told officials that local governance officers are slow at resolving their cases.

This woman went tearful as she expressed her concerns

The CEO of the RGB  Prof Anastase Shyaka said that this year’s program intends at helping locals acquire justice on all the issues facing their lives, thus improving their livelihoods.

Despite four past sessions in four previous years, citizens are still reporting on issues that, they say, are not resolved by their respective local authorities.

Nyabihu residents displayed cases related to land issues, court injustice, poor infrastructures(water sanitation, electricity) and taxes.

To these concerns, officials told residents that issues highlighted will be resolved in the near future but in connection with legal procedures and means.

Prof Shyaka reminded his counterparts that good governance is mostly the one that serves the best interests of the citizens.

He focused on the backbone of this annual program, being the one to provide more and better services to citizens in different parts of Rwanda.

Minister of local government Francis Kaboneka promised that issues that will not be resolved throughout this campaign will be sort out as usual by different institutions that are concerned with local government.

He, therefore, urged officials to deliver quality services to citizens issues and provide lasting solutions on the issues raised.
