The Canadian based rider Guillaume Boivin won the first stage of the ongoing Tour du Rwanda with 2h12’35 of speed while the Rwandan rider Areruya Joseph won the Yellow Jersey. Areruya plays in the Les Amis Sportifs of Rwamagana, Eastern Province of Rwanda.
Among 17 first best performers, six are Rwandans namely: Uwizeye Jean Claude(6), Areruya Joseph(10), Jean Bosco Nsengimana (12), Gasore Hategeka(14), Valens Ndayisenga(16) and Nathan Byukusenge(17).
As the first stage started, the 70 riders left Kicukiro at IPRC-Kigali towards Ngoma , East Province and had to end the race at Cyasemakamba stadium.
Among the 70 riders, 15 were Rwandans. Rwandan riders have won the competitions twice in the previous ‘Tours du Rwanda’ competitions.
From the departing point(Kicukiro, IPRC), Remera, Kabuga …until the ending point at Cyasemakamba stadium, local fans and amateurs gathered at in the neighboring areas to eyewitness the Tour du Rwanda.
