During the Graduation Ceremony of 45 soldiers who graduated from Nyakinama Senior Command and Staff College, His Excellence Paul Kagame revealed to the audience four reasons why he did not react immediately to the Kikwete’ speech.
During the African Union 50th Anniversary of its foundation, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania said that for the restoration of peace in the region to occur, countries that have rebels operating either inside or outside them should initiate peace talks with them.
The Kikwete’ speech angered Rwanda that, according to Minister of Foreign affairs Louis Mushikiwabo, will never held talks with genocide perpetrators. The Kikwete’ words created a major crisis across the region as media covered the story so widely.
During the graduation, H.E President Kagame revealed to High Military Command what were the reasons for his silence.
-Firstly,His Excellence said that he knew the content of Kikwete before even the event,
-Secondly, President found the speech senseless,
-Thirdly, Kikwete’s speech was full of ignorance,
-Fourth, according to His Excellence, if Kikwete’ speech embodies genocide ideology, as many might think it to be , that issue will be should have been discussed later on at an adequate time.
“I am full convinced that our identity and commitment to solve our own problems is a reality on a rumor and we are proud of it” said President Kagame.
