Yesterday evening the Head of State welcomed special team of UN ,EU AU and MONUSCO members headed by Ms Mary Robinson and Martin Kobler who heads the MONUSCO in neighboring DRC. These envoys included the US special envoy in the Great Lakes Region ,Mr Russ Feingold, Koen Vervaeke the EU representative and Diarrra Boubacar who represents the AU in the region.
Their visit to Rwanda aimed at discussing with the President on issues relating to insecurity that prevails in DRC and in the region at large.
H.E thanked the delegates for their efforts to bring upon peace in the region and in DRC particularly.
President Kagame told the team members that the discussants in Kampala talks should take the privilege provided to them through the support of these international organisations to push the talks forward as to find a lasting solution to the crisis.
Mary Robinson said that crisis will end in peaceful and in the near future.
We’re glad that the H.E Paul Kagame is committed to support the efforts to foster peaceful relations in the region,said Mary Robinson.
The delegates told President Kagame that they support the peace efforts in the region.
Madame Mary Baine, the PS in Ministry of Foreign Affairs told journalists that the delegates affirm that the MONUSCO joint military team is committed to neutralize the rebels in DRC including the FDLR .
She said the team members understand that these rebels are among the main challenges to the peace relations in the region.
