Hadi awarded most aggressive rider jersey

TEAM RWANDA rider Janvier Hadi bagged the most aggressive rider jersey despite finishing 100th in stage four of the on-going Tour of Alberta on Saturday to drop to 109th in the general classification ahead of Sunday’s stage five.

A group of eight, including Canadians Nic Hamilton and Bruno Langlois, went out front early and stayed there for about 150 kilometres, only to be tracked down and swallowed by the chase group in the waning minutes of the race.

Theo Bos of the Netherlands pulled away with about half a kilometre to go, drafting past teammate Sep Vanmarcke on the home stretch and sprinting to the finish line to win Stage Four of the five-stage competition.

Hadi, a guest rider in the Garneau-Quebecor Team, spearheaded the jailbreak group that was eventually tracked down from behind to win the most aggressive rider jersey.

Saturday’s 163.5km stage 4 run from Edmonton to Strathcona County featured six sections of rough pavement, which the locals refer to as “Canadian Pavé.”

The course also included three sections of gravel roads that totaled about 5km. The stage finished with three laps of a 2.8km circuit, the tightest and shortest closing circuit of the week.

Sunday’s conclusion at the Tour of Alberta took over the streets of downtown Edmonton with a 121km circuit race.
