Marc Hoogsteyns is a Belgian citizen who married a Rwandan woman. He has a son who attended the Itorero camp of students ready to enter Universities both in Rwanda and outside it.
Marc has appreciated the fact that one of his children chose to attend the camp as to learn Rwandan values and norms that will help him carry out his studies with dignity and pride.
The camp was concluded by President Paul Kagame this Tuesday and has reminded them the value of upholding cultural values that characterize Rwandans.
Most of parents whose children have attended the camp appreciated the initiative as it plays a role in nurturing lasting friendships between young people and strengthen the sense of being a Rwandan.
The Belgian Mark Hoogsteyns said that his child has learnt a lot from colleagues including understanding some Kinyarwanda words and trying to utter them slowly but firmly.
For him, the fact that Rwandan students from foreign education systems come to Rwanda to be nurtured about Rwandan values is a good tool towards patriotism and the uphold of national culture.
He said that Rwanda and Israel are the ones nations in the globe that practice such endeavor and this is a good initiative, he added.
Hoogsteyns revealed that if one of children chooses to integrate Rwanda Defenses Forces, he will allow him/her to do so as he agrees it will be a good choice.
The Indangamirwa Camp was attended by 345 young people who study in Rwandan universities an outside.
It was also attended by some others who are ready to enter universities from both Rwanda and in the foreign ones.
