Howard Buffet lauds the choice Rwandans made in amending the constitution

The US based philanthropist and investor Howard Buffet who is currently attending the World Economic Forum in Kigali said that the choice that Rwandans made in amending the Constitution to allow Presindent Kagame run for the next president term was dictated by the willingness to allow the able President continue the economic path he undertook for Rwanda.

This Wednesday’s discussion was led by the former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and panelists were President Paul Kagame, Howard Buffet.

Panelists focused on leadership choice that Rwanda has chosen and the recent amendment of the constitution.

Tony Blair who was the moderator asked Buffet his say about the criticism according which amending the constitution to allow President Kagame run for the next mandate was unconstitutional.

To this, Howard Buffet said that President Kagame is the choice of Rwandans and can run that due to his ability to manage Rwandan affairs and successfully.

For him,every nation can amend its constitution to adjust it with the ongoing prevailing situation.

He gave an example of USA that has amended its Constitution 27 times throughout its history.

Howard Buffet told the gathering that Rwandans chose for their own nation and destiny, thus non shouldn’t misjudge them and criticize them.

If Rwandans took a decision for their future, it’s up to them to assume their responsibility, he informed.

He provided various examples showing that Rwandans have chosen their future wisely.

These examples include the current Gender balance that prevails in the Parliament, Cabinet, and Judiciary and in the rest of the national life.

Asked about his comments on the above mentioned criticisms, President Kagame said that he never have urged Rwandans to keep him leading the nation.

For him the choice was Rwandans not his own .
