Yesterday  during an international conference that took place in the INILAK campus  and which has  brought together officials from the Ministry in charge of disaster management and its partners, Antoine Ruvebana one of  the officials from MIDMAR revealed that all of the properties destroyed by the disasters in 2013  are estimated to 50 Billion Rwf.

The  international conference was attended by different nations from across the world including Ukraine, China, Russia, Germany, Hungry, Canada, Uganda  and Hong-Kong.

The Rector of INILAK, Dr. Jean NGAMIJE exepected the attendants to fetch more insights from the experience of the panelists who came from different countries across the world.

The Permanent sectretary in the MIDMAR , Antoine Ruvebana, revealed that all the properties  destroyed due to different natural disasters have been estimated to 50 billion Rwf.

These disasters included  heavy rains, firebreaks, wild animals among others.

Ruvebana revealed that the Ministry of disaster management has set up monitoring teams across all the sectors of Rwanda as to assess the pre-disaster situations and take adequate measures to handle the post-disaster period as well.

Participants have learnt about the use of the new technological system called “(Geography Information System (GIS)” that helps in disaster assessment and  management.

According to Rubeva Antoine, the MIDIMAR has acquired modern tools to be used in disaster management, adding that teams have been trained about the use of the tools.

In the meeting, many experts will exchange knowledge about disaster management  so that the risks leading to  different disasters that cost people’s lives and destroy their properties might be minimized and their consequences might be dealt with effectively.
