The capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa, normally full of hustle and bustle, woke up on Monday to little activity going on in the streets, as these pictures from the BBC’s Poly Muzalia show.
Kinshasa has taken on the appearance of a “ghost town”, as security has been beefed up to prevent any action from opposition and civil society activists (see previous entries).
Opposition leaders called upon the President Kabila to step down from power as his term gets its end today.
However there is a fearful situation that troubles are likely to arise if the opposition keeps its commitment to strike against the ruling President Kabila.
